Last offseason, the Colorado Rockies jettisoned franchise third baseman Nolan Arenado to St. Louis. This offseason, they found his replacement. On Wednesday, it was announced that Colorado was signing Kris Bryant to a seven-year, $182M contract. It’s a puzzling move for the Rockies. The team finished more than 30 games back in the NL West in 2021 and was seemingly in rebuild mode after the Arenado trade and also after letting two-time All-Star shortstop Trevor Story hit free agency. Regardless, Bryant is now the well-compensated face of the Colorado franchise, but it remains to be seen if Bryant will ever come close to sniffing the postseason over the next seven seasons in Denver.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. In MLB history, 28 players have earned both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors over the course of their careers, including Bryant, who won both as a member of the Chicago Cubs. So with that in mind, how many of the 28 can you name in five minutes?
